  Excel Toolbars

The Excel screen provides toolbars to help users work more efficiently.  The default standard and formatting toolbars are indicated below:

You can change the location and content of any toolbars used by Excel.  To see what toolbars are available, right click anywhere in the toolbar area that is not an icon.  You'll get a toolbar shortcut menu, showing that the default toolbars used by Excel are the standard toolbar and the formatting toolbar. Click or unclick a toolbar to make it appear or disappear. You can "dock" toolbars at the sides of the screen by dragging them by their colored title bars.

Each toolbar contains icons to perform basic Excel tasks.  For example, the standard toolbar contains the following:

  • new_icon.gif (97 bytes) "new worksheet" icon - clicking on the "new worksheet" icon creates a new, blank worksheet
  • file_open_icon.gif (125 bytes)"open worksheet" icon - clicking on the " open worksheet" icon allows you to open an existing file.
  • file_save_icon.gif (106 bytes) "save worksheet" icon - clicking on the " save worksheet" icon allows you to save an existing file.

The formatting toolbar is summarized below:
