  Moving and copying

There are several ways to move and copy cells on a worksheet. You can:
  • Re-type them (this is slow).
  • Use the Copy and Paste commands on the edit menu.
  • Use the copy and paste speed keys (CTRL+C and CTRL+V). You will find these located conveniently under your left hand on the keyboard. CTRL+V (for paste) is easy to remember because it looks like an insertion mark.
  • Drag or CTRL-drag a selection (this is fastest).

Using Drag and CTRL-drag

Drag a selection to move it.  Move the cursor over the edge of the selection until it shows as a white arrow.  Then drag the selection using the left mouse button.

CTRL-drag a selection to copy it. CTRL-drag means hold down the CTRL key and drag the edge of the selection with the left mouse button.  You will see a small + appear next to the arrow cursor: this is to remind you that you are copying, not moving.  You must remember to release the left mouse button before you release the CTRL key for the copy to take effect.  Otherwise Excel will think you're asking to move to selection, not copy it.
