  Quitting Excel

A useful thing to know as soon as you start a program is how to shut the darn thing down.  Here's how to shut Excel:

You can do this quickly with the keyboard by holding down  the Alt key and simultaneously pressing any key that is an underlined letter on the menu.

So exiting  the file becomes Alt+F+X.

Note that you never need to memorize these keyboard speed-ups: they are always there to use, and the menu always shows you what they are.   You may find yourself using more and more of them quite naturally as you spend more time with Excel.

Note that you can also use Alt+F4 to close Excel (and any other Windows program).

It is a good habit to save any work that you are doing in Excel before you close the program.  Use File | Save - and remember what directory or folder that you save the file into so that you can find it again.
