MIS7540 MiniProject #1
Software Design

Software Project Management
Babson College, Spring 1998, Prof. Steven Gordon

Do one of the following three miniprojects

  1. Describe a software development project that your company is currently working on or has recently completed. Create a data design, process design, or object design for the project or for some segment of the project. If you select this option, your design must be your original work. You may, however, examine any project documentation that does not include the design specifications. Limit the scope of the miniproject so that it does not exceed ten pages.
  2. Select two CASE tools that address the same level of software project analysis and design. For example, you might select two CASE tools that are designed to help automate data design, or you might select two integrated CASE tools. Using published reviews, information available over the web, and/or information available from the CASE vendors, compare and contrast the two products. Assess which you would prefer and why. If possible, obtain and use trial copies of the software to help you understand more fully how the products work.
  3. Analyze how CASE tools are used by your company or by a company with which you are familiar. Interview two software developers who use CASE tools to determine their level of satisfaction with the specific tools that they use and with CASE in general. Interview one non-technology manager and one end-user who serve on a software development or acquisition project team. Assess how much they know and understand about the CASE tools used by the designers and developers on the team, and how, if at all, they interact with the CASE products.
