Dr. Rao is a
faculty member in the department of Technology, Operations and
Information Management at Babson. He teaches in the MBA and
Babson Executive Education programs. His research interests include
Innovation and Technology Management,
Entrepreneurial Strategies for Managing Innovation and Growth, Service
Innovation and Service Excellence, Aligning
Business Strategy and Execution.
His research has appeared in The
Sloan Management Review, The Academy of Management Executive, Production
and Operations Management Journal, Journal of Operations Management, Journal of Business and Management,
Quality Management in Health Care, Journal of Innovative Management, and
the Cornell Hotel and Restaurant Administration Quarterly. He has
written over a dozen business cases that range in topics from Service
Strategy & Innovation, Service Excellence, Strategy, Corporate Strategic
Alignment, Supply Chain Management and Quality Management.
Dr. Rao has
extensive experience in Executive Education and Consulting. For Babson
Executive Education, he has lead
the Innovative Management & Entrepreneurial Leadership program for HEC,
Paris (since 2000); Driving Innovation and Entrepreneurial Thinking
program for the Stockholm School of Economics (since 2001); and
Innovative Management & Corporate Entrepreneurship program for ESADE,
Spain (since 2004). He has also taught in Babson Executive Education's customized executive programs
for Ocean Spray, Merrill Lynch, U.S. Navy, Novartis, Glaxo Smith Kline,
Scottish Enterprise, Boathouse Advertising, PANalytical X-ray, Lucent,
Fresenius Medical Care, Serono, North Atlantic Capital, Cytyc, Cambridge
Technology Partners, EMC, France Telecom, Vivendi, Parametric Technology
Partners, and
International Group of Department Stores (Switzerland).
In fall 2007, he won the Dean’s award for Excellence in Teaching at Babson
Executive Education.
Dr. Rao has a
family-business background and is a consultant for BFA Quatrion (a
subsidiary of BFA Conseil, Paris). He has consulted for Benchmark
Assisted Living, FitLinxx, Microline Pentax, Novartis, Boston Scientific
Corporation, Fidelity Investments, Teradyne, Vacuum Solutions Group,
LoJack and VIT (India).
He sits on the
board of The HJKP Educational Trust (India).
