Integrated Design, Manufacturing, and Marketing: Stanford GSB and SOE

A 2-quarter course in which teams of 4 MBA's and engineering students research, design, and market a product. There is an initial effort to put together individuals with equivalent or complementary experiences and expectations, and time spent initially on preparing the class for the issues they will face in working together in teams.

Design of Mechanical Systems: Stanford SOE

An undergraduate, one-quarter engineering course divided into 3 sections. The first has students working in pairs to design relatively simple mechanical systems (3 weeks); the second involves teams of four designing complex mechanical systems (6 weeks); and the third section is spent debriefing students on the experience of working in teams (3 weeks). This course is many students' introduction to academic teams, and the emphasis on understanding the role of team dynamics prepares them for future classes using teams.
